Details Make the Difference

At Details, we care about the impact of our operations on the environment and take seriously the responsibility to make choices that balance the needs of our clients with protection of natural resources. We’re proud of the measures we’ve taken to become an eco-friendly business and want you to feel confident that we consider carefully how to implement our services in a manner consistent with our concern for the environment.

Policies and Programs

We recommend glass and stoneware storage containers for our chef services clients where practical. Like plastic, glass is recyclable, but glass has an advantage plastic does not- it doesn’t depend on petrochemicals for its manufacture. We generally limit disposable storage to applications where it is most beneficial.

When shopping for our clients we use reuseable shopping bags and totes. You can own a set of 3 canvas bags embroidered with the details logo and a cotton string farmer’s market bag for just $65.

Our chef coats are made of natural fibers. Unlike synthetics which are made from petrochemicals, natural fibers are biodegradeable and renewable.

We wash our linens and uniforms in non-toxic cleaning products which do not contain sulfates, chlorine or phosphorus, do not pollute our water supply and biodegrade easily.

We use non-toxic cleaners and all-natural soaps in our offices and limit use of anti-bacterial agents. Besides possibly contributing to development of allergies and reducing resistance to disease, such products are hard to clean from the water supply.

Much of our vendor-printed marketing collateral and office forms are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. When in-house printing is required, we choose recycled papers whenever possible and recycle 100% of our ink cartridges.

We shop locally and favor Minnesota-based farmers, manufacturers, and other businesses wherever practical, reducing the fuels used to transport the goods we need to provide our clients with the best possible service. Since we shop “en route” to our in-home service clients, we reduce back-and-forth transport to storage facilities. In addition, we use compact electric hybrid vehicle technology – getting up to 60 mpg on half of our fleet of vehicles.

We also employ various energy saving techniques in our offices when it comes to heating and cooling, lighting, and water usage. Naturally, we also have recycling and trash composting programs.

What about Organics?

we think it’s important to share our philosophy when it comes to organic and “natural” products, including food. We do not buy organic or natural products simply for the sake of doing so, but often select such items, provided their use doesn’t negatively impact the quality of service our clients expect. We try to make smart choices, considering carefully that some organic products are produced or provided by companies who aren’t otherwise eco-friendly- that spend energy and resources in getting their products to market that far outweigh the savings in producing the goods.  In addition, we value the importance of variety in a diet, and believe as much in supporting our global economy as our local one. After all, we hope Minnesota corn, pork, dairy, honey, and wild rice find their way to  places like California , Wisconsin, Florida and Hawaii, because we very much enjoy their wine, cheese, oranges, pineapples and bananas.
